Communication Impairments Need Advocacy

As members of a community, we all need to do our part to advocate for others. For over 75 years, May has been labeled as Better Hearing and Speech Month, a time to increase public awareness, knowledge, and understanding of the many forms of communication disorders – hearing, speech, language, and voice. Communication impairments unfortunately tend to affect the people in our society who need the most help such as the elderly, children, the poor, and the disabled. With our support and awareness, we can learn how we can help improve the quality of life and communicative abilities of those around us. Like is all about making memories and connecting with our loved ones, as well as meeting new people and constructing new relationships. Those citizens who do not have the ability to do this are missing out and they may have options they are not aware of. Our audiologists work with the patient and their families to find the best solutions of all of their hearing needs.

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders reports that approximately 43 million people in the United States suffer from a speech, voice, language, or hearing impairment. Almost 28 million suffer from a hearing loss. The majority of those Americans have a hearing loss that can be treated; yet fewer than 7 million use a hearing aid. We offer a wide variety of hearing aid styles and manufacturers representing the very best technology. We help you select the style and type of hearing aid that works best with your type hearing loss and fits best into your lifestyle. Why do people live without hearing aids if they could help? Many people are unaware of the possibilities and solutions for living with communication impairments. Others do not have access to hearing aids or may not even know they are suffering with some form of hearing loss. We offer an online hearing loss assessment which could give you important information and we also offer hearing tests to evaluate hearing sensitivity.

Helen Keller once stated that of all her impairments, she was perhaps troubled most by her lack of speech and hearing. She said that while blindness separated her from things, her lack of speech and hearing separated her from people — the human connection of communication. The ability to communicate – to hear, process sound and respond – makes life more engaging, interesting, and fun. There is then a direct link between your ability to hear and your ability to feel emotions. Without hearing, we’re often left out. Studies have shown untreated hearing loss can lead to isolation which often leads to depression, anxiety and disconnect from the rest of the world. Contact us today to help yourself or someone you love. In a world where so many people have to live life below the fullest, become an advocate for communication impairment solutions.
